This year was a disaster anyway. :/ This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Massive rains caused floods, mudslides etc. None was big enough to catch media attention but there were A LOT OF them. Certainly a big flood that kills a few dozen people is more interesting than a small one lasting for weeks (months) and washing away several villages... but both are tragic. :/ I'm lucky enough to live in the more hilly part of the country (Water tends to flow down... :] ). And not having functional industry has some good points too... ( Twenty years ago this town HAD a similar "pond" over it. )

Ouch.
Will the industries answer for the damage done?

Maybe but I'll be genuinely surprised if they did. In the first media coverages they even denied that this mud is dangerous. (PR guy saying: "It only causes slight skin irritation" When it was already out that this stuff has 12-13Ph on a scale of 14 (7 is neutral). :/ )

"slight skin irritation" with pH 12!? Wow! And one nano-second afterwards it melts the flesh up to the bone... Motherf*ck**s!
With four dead people I would send the whole MAL's director board to the bloody jail, hoping that they would receive some "toxic residuals" as well there... through their asses!
I am mad on all these guys that seem to beleive that they can destroy our bloody planet just because they have the money to do it...

In TV and in newspapers says that this mud is corrosive ... and the images on TV was awesome: towns covered with that mud, houses beyond repair, a corroed cat...
All the mud (or part) came from a toxic deposit. Such Chemicals are toxic ...
The same happened in the province of Huelva years ago: same thing, almost the same stuff. But enviroment dammage is present, even if the mud is cleared (and de-toxiced)

And some years ago something similar happened in Romania (With a gold mine and toxic waste containing mostly cyanide)... It destroyed the wildlife even on the Hungarian part of the river "Tisza" :/
Oh yeah. And my mother told me that the "little pond" I mentioned earlier is still there and was originally filled with high concentration hydrochloric acid (pH around 2-3)*. She doesn't know if anyone tried to neutralize the stuff... no sane people go even near it. :/
* That toxic waste deposit isn't used for decades... But it's a true monument for the relationship between safety regulations and People's Republics. :/
