¡Gracias! No conocía ese blog y también me va a venir de perlas en breve... Además tiene un enlace a otra página que perdí cuando murió mi portátil y nunca pude volver a encontrar.

Ya he terminado con la novela del Clan Ventrue (tenia algunas cosillas interesantes) y el manual de Cazafantasmas (y este fin de semana jugamos una partidilla con gran exito, no veais que risas echamos).

Ya me he puesto con la novela del Clan Gangrel, a ver que tal.

El juego de ender terminado, me ha encantado, ya me he puesto con el segundo de la saga. Muy recomendable.

¡Qué coincidencia! Ese libro me lo compré yo en Irlanda hace un par de años, pero aún no he tenido tiempo para leerlo todo.
Parece que tenemos mucho aficionado a la mitología celta por aquí... Si no recuerdo mal, Malitia dijo que estaba leyendo el Mabinogion (you are not that weird, by the way!) y ahora esto.

loboaureo, yo también vi el teaser esta mañana, me envió el link un compañero nada más llegar al curro. No enseña demasiado, pero me dejó con las ganas... Mejor abrimos un post en Series para eso.

En cuanto a juegos de rol, yo ahora estoy releyendo el Scion. Como buen aficionado a la mitología, me encanta ese juego (al menos el Hero, luego se les va la pinza demasiado). Ahora estoy preparando una partidilla, pero como nos reunimos de higos a brevas no tengo muy claro cuándo llegaremos a jugarla.

Me lo apunto para mi siguiente compra, gracias ^^.

Yo también soy un gran aficionado a la mitología. Mas por la escandinava pero tambien la griega y la celta que me encantan.

El libro es bueno, pero no es lo que me esperaba. Soy un no iniciado en materias mitológicas, por lo que muchos de los nombres que aparecen en los distintos relatos no me resultan familiares, y por lo tanto carezco del contexto necesario como para poder comprenderlos en toda su magnitud. ¿Me podría recomendar alguien un buen libro sobre mitología celta o nórdica para principiantes?

De mitología nórdica yo te recomendaría o bien "Mitología Nórdica" de Heinrich Niedner o ir directamente a una de las fuentes más valiosas como son las Eddas de Snorri Sturluson (hay varias ediciones la mas conocidad es "Textos Mitológicos de las Eddas"). El de Niedner es un libro bastante antiguo, tendrá alrededor de un siglo, pero es muy completo.

Sobre mitología celta, pues leí hace tiempo un libro que me gustó pero no sabría decirte el título. Se que el autor era Roberto Rosaspini.

Muchas gracias, los buscaré en Amazon. Aquí en Chile los libros en general son bastante caros, conviene mucho más traerlos de afuera, sobre todo si son raros o escasos.

I had a deep interest in the mythology of the Celts back in my high school days. (Aged 16-17, between my fads concerning evolution and writing systems (alphabets). ) I read everything I could find about it which wasn't much. The local library's selection on myths and legends was quite limited... To be perfectly honest the only thing they had in abundance were works of Marx, Engels and Lenin (everything else was hard to find... They had a waiting list on Lord of the Rings!!! ). :/ I'm sooooo glad for the internet (and book piracy ).

No. I don't understand Spanish at all*. I use Google translate + common sense.

It creates Spanish to English rough translation (because a Spanish to Hungarian one wouldn't be helpful at all (amusing ... maybe )). Then I try to repair the grammatical oddities and guess the mistranslations if something still looks out of space.




* Hungarian is my first language, German is second and English third.
(And I understand some words in Russian (Sadly I forgot how to use the Cyrillic alphabet ) and Japanese (I read kana.). But these aren't really usable. )

If you do not manage to understand anything, let us know. Any of us might be able to help, because we sometimes use some slang that is probably not easy to translate.
Hungary in the 90s wasn't probably the best place in the world to find information about foreign mithologies... But a waiting list for the Lord of the Rings!! I would have killed for that book!!

It wasn't as bad as it could be, if I had been interested in classical Greek-Roman-Egyptian mythologies I would probably find a lot of info (or at least MUCH more). There wasn't really much of a censorship after the 70s. (Our last great "communist" leader wasn't a believer in many things most people in the west are likely to associate with his ilk. Like building a personal cult, killing of political rivals and censoring books. ) The biggest problems were and partially still are:
1) the snobbery and elitism of book publishers and librarians ("If it's not classical / TRUE literature etc. we won't publish it / keep it in our library.")
2) And the money good translators asked for their work.
(This resulted in a spiral: the "unworthy" books ended up being published by small companies who couldn't afford good translations... and so on.)

I don't really know why but The Lord of the Rings was kinda an exception. It got a good translation* (and was published by a big company). But libraries still refused to keep it (or at least keep more than a 1-2 copies)...

* Useless trivia: Partially by the same "Göncz Árpád" who ended up being the first (and second) president of the Hungarian republic.

From the end of World War II till 1989. First free election was in 1990. But the truth is it wasn't really hardcore communism after the 60s anymore. There was an uprising (revolution is the most fashionable term for it nowadays) in 1956 ... it failed, political cleansing followed, but the new leader learnt from the mistakes of his predecessor. .oO( His philosophy was: "Who cares what people say and think, as long as they live comfortably enough not to rebel." )

Eso realmente suena como una excelente frase para un régimen totalitario

Actually it worked almost too good... Until the "keep them living comfortably enough" part killed it. It meant too much governmental spending (Hey! People like the rising standards of living! ) so eventually it just collapsed economically. It wasn't sustainable.


*Edit* Now that I think about it at the end this system looked a lot like Ankh-Morpork: Was ruled by a semi-benevolent dictator. Regular elections had only one candidate. Economics was dependent on crime / the black market (if not organised by the government but at least routinely overlooked by the authorities). And this was called a democracy...

I wasn't actually thinking on Communism or on the political scenario, but rather on the economical situation of the country after the fell of Berlin Wall. I have made some friends from Bulgary, Russia and GDR (East Germany) and everyone has told me about the difficulties they have in their countries in the early 90s.
Anyway, I guess that there was not big differencies with Spain until the 70s. We were also living a dictatorship until 1978, with opposite political views, but pretty much the same in the end...

BTW, I would say that we should rather take this conversation out of this thread, to the "Cafetería" in the forum...
